The Board of Zoning Appeals is a 5-member board appointed by the Township Trustees and has the following duties:

To hear and decide appeals.

To grant variances for area or use.

To grant special use permits.

To grant home occupation permits.

Appeals and variances go to the Board of Zoning Appeals only after an applicant is refused a zoning permit by the zoning inspector.  The Board of Zoning Appeals receives applications for variances, special use permits or home occupations permits for its consideration.    The Board of Zoning Appeals then conducts a public hearing to review the application and gives its approval or disapproval.   The only recourse to a decision by the Board of Zoning Appeals is to the courts and not the Township Trustees, as set forth in the Ohio Revised Code.

Members of the Board of Zoning Appeals are Nancy Francis (Chairperson), James Gillis, James Fleming, Jonathan Winters and Larry Bilbrey.  Alternate are Brad Lawrence and Dick Hoffman.

The Township Board of Zoning Appeals meets on an as-needed basis, the time and place of which are published in the Fremont News Messenger.
